More News From Nowhere

After Karapoti…

Posted in General by brettok on February 26, 2010

After Karapoti, I’m going to enjoy riding my bike again.  Not that ‘training’ has been no fun, but the almost all-consuming focus on the race is wearing a bit thin.

After Karapoti, I’ll get a better nights sleep.  No more waking up from a fitful slumber filled with dreams/nightmares about equipment choice, split times and weather conditions messing with my head.

After Karapoti the first point of order is seeing Pixies in Auckland.  Twenty years of waiting, I think I might be a little excited that night.  Things could get out of hand.

After Karapoti, I’ll be riding some awesome trails that I haven’t ridden for a while, and a lot of others that I’ve never ridden at all before. The SPOKE road trip around the country with Ross, Caleb, Mike and Jason is going to be a hoot.  Good friends, great riding, lots of beers and laughs.  Can’t ask for much more than that.

After Karapoti, I’ll be putting my big, chunky front tyre back on.  No more worrying about fast rolling versus extra weight, I’ll be taking the traction thanks very much.

After Karapoti, I won’t be going anywhere near the Tip Track for a while, maybe ever!  While I acknowledge its usefulness as a mental and physical training tool for the massive climbs of the K-race, if I don’t need to do it, then I won’t.

After Karapoti, I’ll hopefully be a member of the club.  It’s what it’s all about.  No other reason.  I’m not going there for fun, or to beat anyone else, or to prove anything to anyone other than myself, and to that God-forsaken course.  I just want the 3.  To beat time.  And when it’s done, I’m done.

Hey thanks K-bro, I’ll be in touch when it’s all over. I’m real preoccupied at the moment, with the race, helping get the next mag finished and organising the road trip too. Hopefully I’ll have some good news on Saturday.
