Ride slow, look fast

Posted in General by brettok on December 27, 2009

It’s a motto that is well used by Caleb when doing photo shoots.  An awesome photographer can make a average rider look good. Even me.

These pics are from the SRAM XX photo shoot we did for SPOKE 34 a little while back, on a cold, windy afternoon on Mt Vic.

It’s amazing to witness the amount of preparation that he puts into his photos, and the reason why he is NZ’s premier mountain bike shutterbug, and one of the most respected by his peers on the international scene as well.

Each of these shots, and the one that made it to the mag, took numerous runs until Caleb was satisfied that every detail was just perfect; the fill-flashes going off properly, my eyes looking in the right spot, the pedals at the premium position, the mouth held just right.  Now I understand why my own photos are so… average, and why SPOKE is right up there with the likes of BIKE when it comes to mountain bike magazine quality.

You sure do look like you know what you’re doing. Caleb is a frigging genius.
